Hi Pumpkins ! Half double crochet is one of the crochet basic stitches to learn as a beginner. It’s a very convenient stitch because it’s higher than a single crochet so can crochet your creation faster. Unlike the double crochet, you don’t have this » empty spaces » aspect after crocheting.

Step-by-step
It will be easier for you to memorize this stitch if you count the yarn-overs. For a half double crochet, you need 3 of them.
To explain the hdc, I chose to do it on a chain but you can also do it in a round ( shown in the video ) 
Make a first yarn-over (1/3) Visualize the 3rd stitch from the hook ( the 2 first chain stitch correspond to the height of a first hdc ) 
Pass your hook in this 3rd stitch 
Make a second yarn-over (2/3) 
Then, pass it through the first loop on the hook You have 3 loops on your hook. Make a third yarn-over (3/3) 
And pass it through the 3 loops that are on the hook. 
You have 1 loop left of the hook and your first hdc is done !
