For more convenience and to support my blog you can choose to purchase the printable PDF file of the minion crochet pattern ( ad free and more detailed pictures ) on my Etsy shop, by clicking here.
So, if you choose that option, huge, huge THANK YOU for your support, I can keep making my crochet patterns thanks to you 🙂
But, you can also decide to follow the pattern directly on my blog, so let’s get started !
Some notes before starting
- Read the pattern completely before you start.
- Full YouTube tutorial for the minions : here
- If you want to make Kevin, please follow the same pattern as Bob, the only
differences are : the color of his eyes ( 2 brown eyes ) and instead of making
27 rounds for body, make 35 rounds at R15 ( the body page ).
- For a result similar to the original minion, it is important to read the pattern at each step so as not to skip instructions given for a specific row. The model requires careful counting of rows and stitches.
- Also, don’t hesitate to contact me here if you notice any mistake in the tutorial, thank you 🥰
- Check the size of the hook indicated before each element.
- The numbers placed in parentheses correspond to the number of stitches to have when finishing the row. This allows you to know if it was done correctly. If you have more than the number indicated, it means that you have added stitches. Conversely, if you lack it, you have forgotten it.
- The letters (a,b,c…) at the end of sentences correspond to the pictures.
- Avoid waste by mixing your cut threads with the stuffing.
- When it is indicated “classic finish “, it means: Cut the thread and pass it through the loop to make a knot.
- When it is indicated ‘’ invisible finish‘’, it means : Cut the thread, pass it through the loop to make a knot and then, create a ‘’ fake stitch ‘’ to make it invisible. ( please refer to this video : here )

List of supplies
The use of different supplies from that indicated may vary the final rendering. You don’t have to use the same brand of yarn but the gauge has to be the same for a similar result.
The minion crochet pattern contain affiliate links. It means that I receive a small commission if you purchase the product that is linked ( no additional cost to you ).
- Hooks : 7mm , 8mm (L11) and 9mm (N11) : crochet kit here
- Yarns ( click on the color to be linked to Amazon. No link means that I bought at the yarn Joann or Michaels ). Also, as long as the yarn gauge is respected, you can pick the yarn ball of the brand you prefer ( the result will be similar in term of proportions ).
Color | Number of skeins | Brand and Name | Weight & length of 1 ball | Gauge | Use in the pattern |
Yellow (buttercup or sunshine sparkle) | 2 | Bernat classic baby blanket or sparkle | 10.5 oz / 220 yds | 6 | Full minion body |
Grey (misty gray) | 1* | Bernat baby velvet | 10.5 oz / 492 yds | 4 | Goggles |

Blue ( baby teal ) | 1** | Bernat baby blanket | 10.5 oz / 220 yds | 6 | Overalls |

** You will need less than one ball.

Do not close the round, keep the loop on the hook, now we will link F1 and F2. Insert the hook in F1’s one of the 6 stitch around R4.
R5 : In this stitch, make a sc . Put a stitch marker on this sc, that will be your first stitch of the round (1) + 5 sc around F1 (6). Then you are back to F2, make a sl* in the stitch where you made your first sc + 6 sc around F2 (12). You are back to your stitch marker.

Start stuffing the body
R49 : (4 sc, 1 dec) x6 (30)
R50 : (3 sc, 1 dec) x6 (24)
Insert a stitch marker on the last stitch to block the thread ( do not cut it ) because we are going to start assembling the elements together. Stuff the body to the top.
Assembly
Assemble and sew the elements as shown in pictures.
For the arms, make sure that both thumbs are up. Then sew on R23’s double crochets, it will look like the end of the arm blends into the body.
For the goggles, make sure to only sew the white part to the body. Not sewing the grey part creates relief.
Goggles strap
Hook 8mm
Black chenille yarn
Ro0 : 60 ch + 1 turning ch
The number of ch depends on the stuffing of your minion. Check that the strap is long enough to go around the head starting from each side of the goggles. (a,b)
If it’s too short, add some chain stitch.
Conversely, if it’s too long remove some.
Turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP ch 60 and start crocheting in ch 59 of Ro0
Ro1 : 59 sc (60) + 1 turning ch
Turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 59 and start crocheting in sc 58 of Ro1
Ro2 : 59 sc (60) + 1 turning ch
Turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 59 and start crocheting in sc 58 of Ro2
Ro3 : 59 sc (60)
Classic finish
Then, sew the strap to the body with black cotton thread.
Smile
To embroider the smile, first create the entire line with black cotton thread. Then, pull that line down a row to create an arc. To make it stay in place. sew a very small stitch at the bottom of the smile ( has to be almost invisible ).
Body
Hook 9mm
Yellow yarn
R51 : (2 sc, 1 dec) x6 (18)
R52 : (1 sc, 1 dec) x6 (12)
R53 : 6 dec (6)
Leave 6 in. of thread then cut it.
Pass the thread through the loop to tie a knot.
With the thread and a darning needle, pass through the previous 6 stitches to close the circle.
Hide the thread in the head with the needle and then cut what is left.
