Crochet pattern pdf file ( ad free )

For more convenience and to support my blog you can choose to purchase the printable PDF file of Stuart the minion crochet pattern ( ad free and more detailed pictures ) on my Etsy shop, by clicking here.

You can also purchase at a reduced price the patterns bundle of the 3 minions : here

So, if you choose that option, huge, huge THANK YOU for your support, I can keep making my crochet patterns thanks to you 🙂

But, you can also decide to follow the minion crochet pattern directly on my blog, so let’s make Stuart !

Some notes before starting

  • Read crochet pattern of Stuart the minion completely before you start and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or feedbacks, I will be happy to answer them ( contact me : here )
  • In the making, I do use craft glue to keep pieces together. Feel free to sew elements if you don’t want to use glue.
  • For a result similar to the original minion, it is important to read the pattern at each step so as not to skip instructions given for a specific row. The model requires careful counting of rows and stitches.
  • Also, don’t hesitate to contact me here if you notice any mistake in the tutorial, thank you
  • Check the size of the hook indicated at the top left of each page.
  • The numbers placed in parentheses correspond to the number of stitches to have when finishing the row. This allows you to know if it was done correctly. If you have more than the number indicated, it means that you have added stitches. Conversely, if you lack it, you have forgotten it.
  • The letters (a,b,c…) at the end of sentences correspond to the pictures.
  • Avoid waste by mixing your cut threads with the stuffing.
  • When it is indicated “classic finish “, it means: Cut the thread and pass it through the loop to make a knot.
  • When it is indicated ‘’ invisible finish‘’, it means : Cut the thread, pass it through the loop to make a knot and then, create a ‘’ fake stitch ‘’ to make it invisible. ( please refer to this video : here )

Difficulty, stitches and techniques used

Level of difficulty : Easy ( the only stitches that are a little bit complicated are the half double crochet, you can learn how to make it : here and the double crochet, learn how to make it : here )

Stitches and techniques : half double crochet, double crochet stitch, single crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch, increase, decrease, back loop only, slip stitch

For more details about the different crochet stitches and techniques, watch my YouTube videos : here

If you are a beginner with chenille yarn, I suggest you to watch my video ‘’ start crocheting chenille yarn ‘’ : here

List of supplies

The use of different supplies from that indicated may vary the final rendering. You don’t have to use the same brand of yarn but the gauge has to be the same for a similar result.

  • Hooks : 6mm (J10) , 8mm (L11) and 9mm (N11) . The 8 mm and 9 mm hooks come from this crochet kit here
  • Yarns ( click on the color to be linked to Amazon. No link means that I bought at the yarn Joann or Michaels ). Also, as long as the yarn gauge is respected, you can pick the yarn ball of the brand you prefer ( the result will be similar in term of proportions ).

*To make the thread thicker for the pattern, I took the 2 ends of the ball and crocheted the 2 threads at the same time. I used less than one ball.
** You will need less than one ball.

  • 2 black buttons ( 0.8 inch diameter )
  • 1 safety eye ( brown iris ), 30 mm : here. I used the 24 mm brown round to place around the screw.
  • Polyester fiber fill type Poly-fill ( less than 12 ounces )
  • Grey, black and white cotton thread, for the smile and to sew the elements together : here
  • Darning needles. They are from the crochet kit listed at the top of the page and a sewing needle to sew the buttons.
  • Round counter : here
  • Stitch markers.
  • 2 cardboard rounds of 1.6 inches diameter ( 4 cm ) and craft glue ( for example Elmer’s craft bond) : here

Assembly overall, feet, arms and goggles

Assemble and sew/glue the elements as shown in pictures.
For the arms, sew on R16’s double crochets, it will look like the end of the arm blends into the body.

For the goggles, make sure to glue or sew only the white part to the body. Not sewing the grey part creates relief.

Goggles strap

Hook 8mm

Black chenille yarn

Ro0 : 38 ch + 1 turning ch (a) (b)

The number of ch depends on the stuffing of your minion. Check that the strap is long enough to go around the head starting from each side of the goggles (c,d).
If it’s too short, add some chain stitch. Conversely, if it’s too long remove some.

Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP ch 38 and start crocheting in ch 37 of Ro0.
Ro1 : 1 sc in each stitch (38)
Classic finish (e)
Then, glue or sew the strap to the body with black cotton thread.

Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP ch 140 and start crocheting in ch 139 of Ro0.
Ro1 : 1 sc in each stitch (140) + 1 turning ch

On Ro2, don’t make a turning ch at the end of the row, just classic finish (b).

Wrapping 2

Ro0 : 140 ch* + 1 turning ch
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP ch 140 and start crocheting in ch 139 of Ro0.
Ro1 : 1 sc in each stitch (140) + 1 turning ch
Ro2 > Ro3 : Same as Ro1 ( 2 rows )
On Ro3, don’t make a turning ch at the end of the row, just classic finish (c).

Place them under books for a few hours to make them flatter or personally, I ironed them under a piece of cloth.

*You don’t need to count them all, the chain measures about 47 inches.

Body

Hook 9mm

Yellow yarn
R36 : (2 sc, 1 dec) x6 (18)
R37 : (1 sc, 1 dec) x6 (12)
R38 : 6 dec (6)

Leave 6 in. of thread then cut it.
Pass the thread through the loop to tie a knot.
With the thread and a darning needle, pass through the previous 6 stitches to close the circle.
Hide the thread in the head with the needle and then cut what is left.

Wrap, wrap, wrap !

Wrap the strips around Stuart the minion as in the photo. The widest strip is attached here (a). The thinner one is attached here (b). Then, sew/glue them.

Smile

To embroider the smile, first create the entire line with black cotton thread. Then, pull that line down a row to create an arc. To make it stay in place. sew a very small stitch at the bottom of the smile ( has to be almost invisible ).
