AN AMERICAN BREAKFAST 🇺🇸
crochet breakfast, easy crochet patterns, crochet food
Hi Pumpkin Friends ! This week i’ve decided to launch a serie of free crochet breakfast patterns. It’s been three months that I live in the US so it will be three of them 🤗 : 🥓 🍳 🍞
At the same time, you will find the link to download a pdf version at the end of each pattern.

BACON & BACON
Supplies
( I buy most of my supplies on Amazon, you can find the clickable link in italic )
- Dark pink and white cotton yarn. I add the link of the type of sets you can buy, here. I love color variety packages, because, with time you end up creating a large stock of yarns and so, more choices for each of your creations
- Hook : 3.5 mm. I believe that is one of the hook size I use the most. It’s from the beginner kit I’ve bought when I first started crocheting.
- Darning needle, included in the kit listed above
Abbreviations (English US)
R: round
Sc: single crochet
Ch: chain stitch
Inc: increase
Dec: decrease
Pattern
Dark pink yarn
R0 : 37 ch
R1 : 1 sc in all 36 ch (36) + 1 ch *
( Start in the second ch (of R0) from the top, then crochet down the 35 chain stitches left of R0 )
White yarn
R2 : ( 2 sc, 2 dec, 3 sc, 2 inc ) x3 ( 36 ) + 1 ch
Dark pink yarn
R3 : ( 2 sc, 2 dec, 3 sc, 2 inc ) x3 ( 36 ) + 1 ch
R4 : ( 2 sc, 2 dec, 3 sc, 2 inc ) x3 ( 36 )
Cut the yarn, fasten off and weave the end in with the darning needle. Also, you might have some threads from the color changing : use the needle to incorporate and hide them into the creation.
Lastly, to make my bacon flatter, I leave it under a heavy book for a night 😅
Little reminder *
When crocheting single crochet stitches row, the first stitch is always one chain stitch. In order to ‘’ turn ‘’ your work, the ch is added at the end of the previous round.
You can always double check by counting stitches at the end of a round.
If you have too many and not enough, it means you didn’t start in the right stitch 😋.

MR. & MRS. SUNNY SIDE UP
The breakfast serie continues with the free pattern of fried eggs. There is a Mr. and a Mrs., the pattern is the same except for the face embroidery.
Supplies
( Some of my supplies are from Amazon, so I’ve added the link in italic )
- White & Yellow Chunky ” Caterpillar ” yarn, from Gründl ( Funny uni) or Bernat ( Baby Blanket ). There is the link for the white one : here, and the yellow one is here. I really love using the Bernat wool, it’s super soft and scrunchy. And, I do believe that it has good pricing point compared to the quantity you get per yarn. Note that if you decide to go for the Bernat wool your eggs will be bigger than the ones on the pictures ( I used the Gründl wool ).
- Hook : 5 mm ( if you use the Grundl wool ) and 8 mm ( if you use the Bernat wool ). My hooks come from the begginner kit I bought when I started.
- Darning needle, I use the ones including in the crochet kit.
- Stitch marker, same thing it’s included in the kit.
- Round counter. I bought one on Amazon because I don’t like the ones that sometimes come with crochet kits. Maybe it’s me but I believe that you can not trust them 🤔. And you need to trust your round counter when you are in the middle of 25 rounds. Anyways, the eggs are not 25 rounds but I still add the link of the counter I bought, I like it and it’s reliable : here. I just saw that it comes in pink as well, I should have bought it, but too late I got the grey one. Here for the pink cute one.
- Safety eyes : 6 mm. All my safety eyes come from the same amigurumi eye kit. They are easy to work with and come in 5 different sizes. It’s way enough to start with.
- Cotton threads black, white & pink ( for the faces ). My cotton yarns always come from color variety kits such as the BambooMn ones . I do prefer using cotton yarns for details on my creations, the result is cleaner.

Faces
First, for both faces :
Smile : Put the black cotton yarn over the 3 stitches in the middle of both eyes ( 1 stitch below Mr. SSU’s eyes & 2 stitches below Mrs. SSU’s eyes ).
Then, lower the black thread on the one middle stitch under.
Use another black thread to separate the main yarn into two equal parts.
Eyes : Insert the safety eyes in R2 ( Yolk ), measure a distance of 1 inch between them.
Then, for Mr. Sunny Side Up :
Wrap the white thread around the safety eye and let it exceed in the same part as shown on the picture
Lastly, for Mrs. Sunny Side Up :
Eyelashes : With the black cotton thread, sew two eyelashes on the external
side of the eyes. Start from the stitch where the safety eyes is and go to one further stitch.
Cheeks : Go down one stitch under the eyes. Sew two cheeks with the pink
cotton thread. The line starts under the eyes and goes to the side.
Once the faces are finished, lightly stuff the yolk and then, sew or glue it to the middle of the egg white. The middle is where R0 is. ☺️
Hope you like your two smiling friend eggs ! 🥰🌸

FRENCHY THE TOAST
Last but not least crochet pattern of my breakfast serie, here is the Toast pattern 🤗 It’s a very easy one, made with only single crochet stitches & chain stitches. Hope you enjoy making this little guy 🥰
Meanwhile, the downloadable pdf for this pattern is available at the end of the article 🌸
Supplies
( I buy most of my supplies on Amazon, you can find the clickable link in italic )
- Beige chenille chunky yarn from Ilkadim ( color ‘’ beige clair ‘’ ) and
yellow chenille yarn from Pingouin ( color ‘’zeste’’ ). These are the two yarns I’ve used for Frenchy but I bought these yarns in France.
- If you live in the US, you can remplace them by Bernat yarns : here for the yellow yarn ( yellow Baby Blanket 3.5 oz / 100 g ) & here for the beige yarn ( pale grey Baby Blanket 10.5 oz / 300 g ). Note that I are using the Bernat yarns your toast will be bigger than the one of the picture. If you follow me for some times, you might know that, now I live in the US I love using Bernat yarns especially the ” Blanket ” collection. I was always wondering what was the difference between Bernat Baby Blanket yarns and Bernat Blanket yarns so I looked it up. They are both 100 % polyester but Baby Blanket yarns are Oeko-tex certified and tested for harmful substances. Which make it more appropriate for babies & kids creations. Note that there are also color palette differences between those two collections.
- Red Heart yarns super saver, cafe latte, 7 oz : 198 g : here. I just love this yarn so much, almost all my Christmas collection was made with it, it’s very affordable and the color is perfect for crochet pastries.
- Hook : 5 mm ( 8 mm if using Bernat’s ). I always use the hooks from the set I bought when I started. I do recommend that kit if you start crocheting, it’s very complete and the quality is good.
- Safety eyes : 6 mm. I bought a box of 5 different sizes here . I always add a little bit of craft glue behing the eyes to make sure they stay in place.
- Darning needle, I use the ones from the hook kit listed above.
- Round counter, I do use a ” special one” because I don’t trust the regular ones that sometimes come with hook sets. It’s the worst when they reset in a middle of a 25 rounds creation, and you need to count all over again. So I bought one from Amazon ( here ) that I do like and trust it, it does come in pink too ( here)
- 100 % cotton thread, black & pink ( for the face). I like the Bamboo MN cotton yarns kits because of the variety of options : here . Bying cotton instead of acrylic is what I recommend for details on Amigurumis. The results cleaner with this material.

Pattern
* Notes before starting
In this pattern, I crochet a chain stitch at the end of some rounds. I use it in order to ‘’ turn ‘’ my work. However I do not count it in the total of my stitches ( the number in parenthesis at the end of rounds ) because I don’t crochet in it. Add a ch at the end of a round but do not start your next round with it. Leave it and continue crocheting in the previous stitches you’ve made before. I use this technique because, at the end, it will be easier to crochet all around your work. Usually, I do not use this technique to crochet in rows but for this pattern in particular, it’s more appropriate.
TOAST
Light brown yarn
R0 : Start by crocheting 11 ch
R1 : Turn your work, 1 sc in all 10 stitches ( 10 ) + 1 ch *
( Start in the second ch (of R0) from the top, then crochet down the 9 chain stitches left of R0 )
From R2 to R8 : 1 sc in all 10 stitches (10) + 1 ch
R9 : 1 inc, 8 sc, 1 inc (12) + 1 ch
R10 : 1 inc, 10 sc, 1 inc (14) + 1 ch
From R11 to T12 : 1 sc in all 14 stitches (14) + 1 ch
R13 : 1 dec, 10 sc, 1 dec (12)
There is the base of your French toast ( pic. 1 )
Cut the yarn, fasten off and weave the end in with the darning needle.
Dark brown yarn
Crochet 1 sc in all stitches surrounding the base of your toast ( pic. 2 ). When you get to R7, sew the stitch a little further than the
other ones. Do the same on the other side ( pic. 3 )
BUTTER
Yellow yarn
R0 : Crochet 4 ch
R1 : 1 sc in each 3 stitches ( 3 ) + 1 ch *
( Start in the second ch (of R0) from the top, then crochet down the 2 chain stitches left of R0 )
R2 : 1 sc in each 3 stitches ( 3 )
Finally, sew ( or glue ) the butter (pic.4) on the right top side of your toast (pic.5)
FACE ( pic. 6 )
Eyes :
On R7, insert the safety eyes, the first one is on stitch number 4 and the second one is on stitch number 7 ( = 2 stitches between them )
Cheeks : Go down one stitch under the eye. Sew two small lines with the pink cotton thread. The line starts under the eye and goes to the side
Smile : Go down 2 stitches under the eyes . Place the black cotton thread on the 2 stitches between the eyes.
Then, lower the black thread on the one middle stitch under.
Use another black thread to separate the main yarn into two equal parts.
Finally ! Your Frenchy the Toast is ready !
If you want to make the toast thicker, you can crochet a second time the base ( light brown part ) & sew both parts together
using the same technique ( sc all around ). You can even add some stuffing 🤗
