Notes
Firstly, I want to add a little disclaimer,
This document is a crochet bag pattern and tutorial which includes a sewing part for the lining.
As a beginner at sewing, I do not consider the sewing part as a sewing tutorial.
Feel free to watch sewing videos for better lining tutorials and more expertise. Thank you for your understanding.
Also, don’t hesitate to contact me here or paquin.mathilde@gmail.com if you notice any mistake in the pattern, thank you :). You are also more than welcome to ask me any questions or give feedbacks as well.
For a result similar to the original bag, it is important to read the pattern at each step so as not to skip instructions given for a specific row. Also, the model requires careful counting of rows and stitches.
Being left-handed, some photos may seem reversed if you are right-handed. However, instructions, techniques and counting are done in exactly the same way.
For right-handed people, you count the stitches from right to left from the marker, and for left-handed people, from left to right.
The numbers placed in parentheses correspond to the number of stitches to have when finishing the row. This allows you to know if it was done correctly. If you have more than the number indicated, it means that you have added stitches. Conversely, if you lack it, you have forgotten it.
The letters (a,b,c…) correspond to the pictures.
When it is indicated “classic finishing”, it means: Cut the thread and pass it through the loop to make a knot.
For more details about the different crochet stitches and techniques, watch my YouTube videos : here
Difficulty, stitches and techniques used
Level of difficulty : MEDIUM ( because of the double loop stitch and the sewing part )
Stitches and techniques : double loop stitch, single crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch, increase, decrease
The main stitch used is double loop stitch, learn how to do it : here
If you are a beginner with chenille yarn, I suggest you to watch my video ‘’ start crocheting chenille yarn ‘’ : here
List of Supplies
The use of different supplies from that indicated may vary the final rendering. You don’t have to use the same brand of yarn but the gauge has to be the same for a similar result.
The crochet bag pattern contain affiliate links. It means that I receive a small commission if you purchase the product that is linked ( no additional cost to you ).
- For bag 1 : 1 yarn of Chenille home yarn by LOOPS & THREADS, gauge 7 ( jumbo ), 8.8 oz/ 109 yds, color Blush Pink, from MICHAELS STORE ( depending of the size of your loops, you might need 2 yarns )

Crochet bag pattern Part I
I will be using stitch markers to make the stitches more visible and the pattern more clear. But, you don’t have to do the same. However if you are beginner, it might help a lot to use the stitch markers 🙂
Start with R0 : 16 ch + 1 turning ch (a)
Turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP ch 16 and start crocheting in ch 15 of R0 (b)
R1 : 15 dl (16 ) + 1 turning ch (c)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, DO NOT SKIP any stitch and start crocheting in dl 16 of R1 (d)
R2 : 15 sc + 1 inc (18) + 1 turning ch (e)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 18 and start crocheting in sc 17 of R2 (f)
R3 : 17 dl (18) + 1 turning ch (g)
Turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, DO NOT SKIP any stitch and start crocheting in dl 18 of R3 (h)
R4 : 17 sc + 1 inc (20) + 1 turning ch (i)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 20 and start crocheting in sc 19 of R4 (j)
R5 : 19 dl (20) + 1 turning ch (k)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP dl 20 and start crocheting in dl 19 of R5 (l)
R6 : 19 sc (20) + 1 turning ch (m)
R7 > R12 : Same as R5 and R6, 3 times. (20). There is the result after R12 : back (n) and front (o)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 20 and start crocheting in sc 19 of R12
R13 : 2 sl , 14 dl (17 ) + 1 turning ch (p)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP dl 17 and start crocheting in dl 16 of R13 (q)
R14 : 13 sc (14) + 1 turning ch (r)
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 14 and start crocheting in sc 13 of R14 (s)
R15 : 13 dl (14) + 1 turning ch
R16 > R21 : Same as R14 and R15, 3 times (14)
Cut the thread and classic finishing. Part I is done (t)
Crochet bag pattern Part II
From R0 to R12 : Same as Part I
Then, turn your work, turning ch becomes first stitch (1) of the row, SKIP sc 20 and start crocheting in sc 19 of R12
R13 : 19 dl (20) + 1 turning ch
Then, classic finishing. Part II is done ( a, b )
Assembly Part I et II
Now position Part I and Part II as in the picture (a) and sew it together with a darning needle and black ( or green ) cotton thread ( in pink if pink bags ) (b). In the seam, I also inserted the remaining cut threads so that they are blocked.
Now, sew the same color parts together by pinching them as in the pictures ( c,d,e,f ).
Same thing on the other side (g). It will create the bottom of your bag. (h)
Then, sew both sides of the bag on around 5.5 inch long following the red arrows, it goes from the bottom to the top of the bag (i,j). Turn the bag over so loops are on the outside. The outer side of your bag is ready (k)
Lining
As a beginner at sewing, I do not consider the sewing part as a sewing tutorial. I will simply show you how I sewed the lining of my bag with probably some mistakes.
Feel free to watch sewing videos for better lining tutorials and more expertise.
Sewing pattern
If you have a printer, you can download and print the sewing pattern ( letter format and A4 available ) : here
Or, if you don’t have a printer, you can follow the instructions below to draw the lines of the pattern.
Take 2 pieces of paper and connect them on the horizontal part with tape (a)
Make sure to check the dimensions of your paper before ( A4 is 8.27 x 11.69 inches and letter format is 8.5 x 11 inches )
Fold where the tape is, and on one of the paper, draw the lines as shown in the pictures with the same dimensions according to the paper that you have (b,c).
Cut the two papers together following the lines (d)
You get your sewing pattern.
Fold another piece of paper in two and draw the line of a rectangle of 2.7’x 2.4’ (e). Cut following the lines and because the paper is folded, you get two rectangles (f)
On my lining there is no front or back sides but you might have it on yours. So I will say ‘’ FS’’ for front side and ‘’BS ‘’ for back side.
Position the pattern on the BS of the fabric (g), draw
the lines with a chalk or a pencil (h)
Cut the fabric following the pattern lines (i)
Use scraps to make to make 4 little
rectangles of around 2’x 1’. (i)
Now we will position the snap buttons (a)
Take the two snap buttons and separate the four magnetic parts as shown in the picture (b)
On the FS, mark 4 little crosses with a pencil or chalk (c) 2.7’ from the side edges and 1’ from the top and bottom edges (d). The crosses are where the buttons will be placed.
On the FS, draw 2 small lines ( 0.2’ long ) on each side of the cross, corresponding to the two metallic parts (e). Do that for the 4 buttons.
On the BS, with the special craft glue, position the 4 little rectangles ( the ones made from scraps ) on the back of each crosses (f). It will reinforce the fabric where the buttons will be. Wait for it to dry.
Cut where the lines are, on 0,2’ long maximum ( make sure to not cut too much ).
On the FS, insert the metallic parts of the button (g)
On the BS, don’t forget to insert the round parts before closing the metal parts on themselves (h)
Do the same thing for each button (i,j)
Sewing
It doesn’t matter whether you sew by machine or by hand 🙂
I will mark by a red line where to sew.
Start with the 2.7’x 2.4’ rectangles. (a)
Fold it in half lengthwise (b). The front side of the fabric is the one staying visible.
And sew where indicated to keep it folded (c).
Fold it again in half lengthwise (d).
Sew on the edge again to keep it folded (e).
Now, fold it in half again but widthwise (f).
And, sew where indicated (g, h).
Same thing for the second rectangle (i).
On the BS, place them on top and bottom edges of the lining, one on the left and one on the right, as shown in the picture (j).
The protruding part forms a sort of ”mini tunnel”. It should be slightly visible ( max 0’5’) from the FS (k). This is where the chain will attach.
Sew where indicated in the picture, creating a rectangle (l). Make sure it’s securely sewn.
This is what it looks like when these pieces are attached to the lining (m)
Then, fold the lining in half so that the BS is visible, the magnetic buttons should logically clip.
Sew where indicated (n).
Pinch with your fingers the part indicated with the yellow arrows (o) to create this shape (p).
Sew where indicated (q,r).
Finally, the lining is ready, it should looks like that (s) and even better than that if you are more experienced than I am 🙂
Place the lining in the bag, the back of the crocheted part and the back side of the lining are facing each other.
The front side of the lining with the buttons are therefore visible.
Hold the lining in place with sewing clips.
Make sure that the two pieces to attach the chain are on each side. They must be near the seam of the sides of the bag (t).
Also, slightly tuck in the edge of the lining to form a small hem and prevent fraying (u).
Then sew by hand the lining to the crocheted part, all around. Remove the clips as you go. In the photo I’ve made the stitches visible (v) to show you but normally the chenille yarn will cover the stitches if you sew close enough to the edge.
Because we crochet more or less tight, your lining may be a little wider than your crocheted part. In this case, fold the fabric as in the photo and sew it all together making the buttons are still facing each other (w).
Finally, your crochet bag is almost ready, don’t forget to attach the chain, handle or strap of your choice.
Voilà ! You are ready to go 😊
