Some notes before starting

You may sell finished products made with this Luigi’s free crochet pattern as long as crochetpinkpumpkin is credited as the designer.

  • Read the pattern completely before you start and if you have any questions or feedback, I will be happy answer them ( contact me : here )
  • In the making, I do use craft glue to keep some pieces together. Feel free to sew elements if you don’t want to use glue.
  • The use of different supplies from that indicated may vary the final rendering. You don’t have to use the same brand of yarn but the gauge has to be the same for a similar result.
  • For a result similar to the original plushie, it is important to read each step of the pattern carefully so you don’t skip instructions given for a specific row (or round). The model requires careful counting of rows and stitches.
  • Also, don’t hesitate to contact me at crochetpinkpumpkin@gmail.com if you notice any mistakes in the tutorial, thank you
  • Check the size of the hook indicated at the top left of each page.
  • The numbers placed in parentheses correspond to the number of stitches to have when finishing the row or round. This allows you to know if it was done correctly. If you have more than the number indicated, it means that you have added stitches. Conversely, if you have less than the indicated amount you may have skipped stitches.
  • The letters (a,b,c…) at the end of sentences correspond to the pictures.
  • Avoid waste by mixing your cut threads with the stuffing.

Dimensions

  • Luigi measures approx. 16 inches high and 13 inches wide
  • The size of your Luigi can differ according to the tightness of your stitches.
  • The use of different supplies from that indicated may vary the final rendering. You don’t have to use the same brand of yarn but the weight category and hook size have to be the same for a similar result ( in term of proportion ).

Difficulty, stitches and techniques used

  • Level of difficulty : Medium
  • Stitches and techniques : single crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch, increase, decrease, back loop, front loop, double crochet
  • For more details about the different crochet stitches and techniques, watch my YouTube videos : here
  • If you are a crochet beginner with chenille yarn and want to make the bunnies, I suggest you to watch my video ‘’ start crocheting chenille yarn ‘’ : here
  • When it is indicated “classic finish “, it means: Cut the thread, yarn over and pass it through the loop to make a knot.
  • When it is indicated ‘’ invisible finish‘’, it means : Cut the thread, yarn over, pass it through the loop to make a knot and then, create a ‘’ fake stitch ‘’ to make it invisible. ( please refer to this video : here )

List of supplies

The use of different supplies from that indicated may vary the final rendering.

  • Hooks, 8mm (L11), 9mm (M13) and 10 mm (N15) from this crochet kit : here

  • White, Black and Yellow stiffened felt sheets ( eyes, eyebrows and buttons ) from Hobby Lobby : here
  • A printer that can print colors for the blue part of the eyes ( we will use a printed picture and glue it to the white felt sheet, you will find the picture to print in the pattern ). If you don’t have a printer, you can use classic amigurumi eyes.
  • Craft glue or hot glue gun for the eyes, eyebrows and buttons ( here or here )
  • Polyester fiber fill type Poly-fill ( 1 bag of 12 ounces ) : here
  • Thin white cotton thread, to sew the elements together : here. If you want to save some time and don’t like sewing, you can also hot glued the elements together with a glue gun (here) or craft glue from Elmer’s (here)
( the bond is better with hot glue).
  • If you decide to sew : Darning needles ( you can use regular darning needles but I like using curved ones from this kit : here , it’s easier to sew elements to the body ).
  • Lap counter : here
  • Stitch markers.
  • 2 cardboard rounds of 3 inches diameter ( 7.6 cm ) to flatten the feet.

  • Now, place the white felt sheet under the printed eyes (b) and draw the contour (c).
  • Cut the white felt following the line (d).
  • Cut the white part of the printed eyes. You only have the blue part left (e).

Cut 0.2 inches of the white part away to make the white part a little bit narrower (g)

Assembly

Assemble and sew/glue the elements as shown in pictures. If you sew, it will be easier for you to use the curved darning needles listed in the supplies. Also, I recommend to pin all the elements first, and then, glue/sew them.

For the arms, sew on R19b’s double crochets, it will look like the end of the arm blends into the body.

Then, sew the head to the body and place the elements as seen in the pictures.
Only sew half of the ears to make sure they stick out.
